A Knife is Not a Pill Cutter
Have you ever used a knife to cut a pill? What harm can it do, right? It turns out you should *always* use a pill cutter and wear gloves to cut pills to make sure the patient is getting the right dose and no one else is exposed to the medication.
Children are more than twice as likely as adults to experience a medication error at home. Michelle Bell, director of Outreach and Education at the Patient Safety Authority, and Caitlyn Allen, managing editor of PATIENT SAFETY, sat down with Dr. Kathleen Walsh, general pediatrician at Boston Children’s Hospital, about how to keep kids and families safe. Understanding Enhanced Barrier Precautions

Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP) are an evidence-based best practice designed to reduce the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) by expanding the use of gloves and gowns during high-contact resident care activities, especially for those at increased risk of acquiring or spreading an MDRO. EBP were released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2019 and are now ...

I don’t think I’ll get a reply from the creator of this content but hopefully someone may reply before I leave this planet. I have dysphagia, but not extreme. My oesophagus sometimes decides it will spasm shut and I can’t swallow. Often this happens with food but when it happens I can now not swallow anything. I do have buscopan pills and was wondering if I can crush them up and rub in gums or snort them. Literally I can’t swallow anything. If I drink it’ll either be super lucky and relax my oesophagus or it’ll gag straight back up. Aside from sticking a pull up my bum, not sure what other options I have. So just wondering really?

@patientsafetyauthority Ok but you provided the video, that’s why I’ve asked you. The NHS in the uk I can’t see will want to advise snorting muscle relaxant due to liability claims. Much the same as they wouldn’t let my wife be in the room and film me having another endoscopy. Many people say an endoscopy is a small procedure and painless. For me, it’s like being water boarded. I’ve had a kidney stone and that was painful but I’d take the pain of that any day over endoscopy. I’m sure being videod would bring about all kinds of legal issues. Much like I guess you not answering. I understand though. Anyone in the comments who sees this, who has experienced dysphagia, happy to try recommendations. Coughing up bubbly frothy flegm every couple of minutes I’d imagine isn’t great for my throat, so happy to try snorting it.

@fxrkaii2847 At this moment? Yeah I’m ok thank you. Regarding my swallowing: Well in the past 10 weeks or so I have drastically cut my calories in my diet. I was maintaining body fat at 4000 kcals and now I do around 2500 a day. Whether it’s because I eat less and statistically less food causes less issues but I now (touch wood) have maybe an eating issue 1-2 times a day as opposed to at times 15-20 times a day. I think I’ll always have it until I seek medical intervention, mainly being surgery. I’ve had this issue since I was 15 or so (I think a little younger) and now I’m nearly 40. Doctors like to tell me something that doesn’t seem to add up, but as long as I’m buying Omeprazole from them they seem happy. Private doctors have me jumping through all manner of unrelated remedies, I guess in a bid to get more money out of my insurance. I’m a glass half empty kinda guy but after 25 years of this you kind of just accept it. Earlier this meal time I had to use water to help some food go down, but before that, I think it has been a couple of days, so maybe just cutting the calories and changing my food palette has helped. Well, for now.

Poison control is awesome. They are so knowledgeable, I have had to call them multiple times. One time I put peroxide in a clear glass and then came back and was thirsty. I thought it was just water, and I was very thirsty so I chugged it and then I realized it was peroxide. Called poison control, I told them the amount and they told me it would probably be fine but did give me side effects to look out for. I also called them one time when my daughter bit into a glow stick when she was really little. They had so much information on the types of chemicals that were in there and supposedly it was fine even though it smelled really bad. Every time I’ve had to call them I’m just overwhelmed with how fast they are and how much information they have at their disposal.

Brand Name Drugs vs. Generic Drugs, and how do we know the difference? Brugger: The first book, The Public Good, tries to answer this question. He states that there are two answers to this question, private and public medicine. The public approach does not start with an answer. It starts with a policy decision, which is to start with generic drugs. First of all, there are public health problems, and then doctors have to come and explain things to the public. There are two ways to look at this: one is to look, in order of importance, whether we want to have more generic medicines or not. The problem with the public approach is that it also focuses on a public health question that is not quite a public economic one. There is a campaign to get to people's door and say, "This is what you have to do if you want to get well." But these are not very public problems, they are more of a matter of public health. And if we have to spend money out of pocket to deal with the inevitable public health costs and inevitably inconsistent results from different medicines, then I think there is not something particularly wrong with doing this. But I would have more flexibility and a more scientific perspective for this. It is this second view that Brugger defines as private medicine, which tries not only to address how medicine is working, but also how to make it better. In his book, the Public Good criticized the idea of "channeling public health dollars to medicine on behalf of the community," as Chasing the Ghost of Dr. Strangelove, and he added that even he would have no qualms with this. We are more concerned with using community health dollars that are actually conducive to the well being of the public health community. Fortunately for Brugge, we have found that this is exactly the point. He tries some different approaches to the problem, such as using networked health care systems. In many ways, that is part of the question of private medicines. Whether this makes sense? If so, which doctors do you think should be particularly relevant to community health care?

Glad I found this. Trying to understand and back up my opinion of the recent criminal prosecution of the R. Vaught case. I am in the minority opinion. I have been trying put in words what I have witnessed for almost all of my 30yr career. The Drift theory fits! What has been something recent as a clinical educator. I will not name the University. I was told this was becoming a standard way of teaching in hospital clinical for students. Students are being taught med admin and procedures by the nurses without instructor involvement. So what is scaring me is the nurse that has drifted from standards of care teaching our student nurses the work arounds, overrides, and other deviations from standards of care. Should we fear what preceptors are teaching? I appreciate my clinical instructor hovering over my shoulder?

HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed almost 33 million lives so far. However, with increasing access to effective HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care, including for opportunistic infections, HIV infection has become a manageable chronic health condition, enabling people living with HIV to lead long and healthy lives. There were an estimated 38.0 million people living with HIV at the end of 2019. As a result of concerted international efforts to respond to HIV, coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2019, 68% of adults and 53% of children living with HIV globally were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART). A great majority (85%) of pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV also received ART, which not only protects their health, but also ensures prevention of HIV transmission to their newborns. A good start would be for the governor, to dismiss the secretary of health. How many thousands, more helpless elderly people would he like to die in Pennsylvania? Dr. Levine has a pediatric degree in psychology. How does that qualify her for public health? How many hundreds of thousands of votes did she bring to prince Tom? The suicide rate is going up because of the governor, and his cabinets actions. The task at hand for the secretary of labor and industry, was to install $170 million computer, for unemployment. I believe prince Tom forcibly installed a person, and I use the term loosely, but has been a teacher of the mentally challenged for 30 years. That act was commendable, the teaching I mean. He then became the head of the Pennsylvania teachers union. I am at a loss to understand how that skill set would qualify him based on merit, to install the unemployment system. If you are using a political hack metric. He would be the perfect choice. How many hundreds of thousands, teacher votes did he bring with him, for prince Tom? We are currently the fifth most corrupt state in the country. Prince Tom is trying unabashedly to make us number one. Hopefully time in prison will give these Earth based carbon units time to “examine their lives“!!!
